June 2013 Featured Child

Olivia Hope (Livy) is a eight year old twin who was born with a brain malformation that resulted in epilepsy and multiple disabilities. She is nonverbal and has many mental and physical challenges. The need for anti-epileptic medications has drastically diminished her ability to develop, therefore, she is completely reliant on her family for her care. She has endured two brain surgeries which have decreased her seizures but they still remain drug resistant.

Despite all Livy has been through, she has shown us a world that knows only love. A world that does not judge and sees only good. Life with Livy is challenging but it is also tremendously rewarding. Through Livy’s short life, she has displayed great strength and a desire to live which few encounter. She has taught us more than we ever thought possible and affects people in ways we never could. Her bright smile, gentle demeanor and incredible fortitude keep our hope alive that someday, a cure for epilepsy will be discovered. We have been blessed with her and for that, we are forever grateful.
